This 7,200-acre Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for waterfowl and prairie-loving species. It adjoins The Nature Conservancy Mad Island Marsh Preserve and consists of fresh and brackish marshes with patches of brush and lots of coastal prairie. Wildlife includes puddle and diver ducks, cranes, rails, shorebirds, alligators, mottled duck, raccoon, river otter, mink, armadillo, white-tailed deer, bobcat, gray fox and cottontail, jack and swamp rabbits.
